S.O.A.R.
Introduction
S.O.A.R. is an acronym for Scripture, Observation, Application and Response. It is a Bible Reading Schema that may be helpful in getting into the Word of God.
The pattern is designed to encourage God’s people to read the Scriptures and to listen and hear God’s voice to them personally. It is not designed to be an in-depth study, but rather the emphasis on teaching people to know God speaking into their lives.
We live in a day where some people pronounce what God is saying but often it does not have a biblical basis and can be in error. With S.O.A.R. we are seeking to get people to hear God’s voice based on biblical truth.
Scripture
Record the scripture that really stood out or really spoke to you. This can be one verse, a series of verses and sometimes the whole chapter.
Observation
Record what is going on here - what is the context? Look at the verses you have chosen and see if the surrounding verses and or chapters give meaning to the verses that stood out. This is more an objective view of the verses.
Application
Record how this relates to you. What is God saying to you through this? Give application as to how you will be different today because of what you have just read. This is important, because it is easy to read God’s Word and go away and forget it. This is where you will grow as a Christian if you put into practice any instruction that God may give to you.
Response
Write your response to God’s Word in the form of a prayer.
